A federal database shows Harvard University has received more foreign funding than any other U.S. university. The Department of Education tracks federally funded institutions that accept money from abroad. Harvard's totals far exceed those of other Ivy League schools and national universities.
The latest online reporting portal, relaunched in January, lists Harvard’s foreign receipts at nearly $4.5 billion across 7,089 transactions. This figure includes more than $6.8 billion from China alone. The data also highlight significant contributions from other countries of concern.
Harvard has received over $630 million from Chinese entities, including roughly $418,000 from organizations involved in foreign talent programs and nearly $420,000 from entities linked to unauthorized military advancements. Sanctioned Chinese entities have contributed more than $300 million in total. Other foreign donors include Venezuela and Russia, which have sent $3.3 million and $750,000 respectively.
