Kermit Gosnell, found guilty of murdering infants at Philadelphia abortion clinic, is dead at 85

Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia doctor whose clinic became synonymous with unimaginable horror, has died at the age of 85. He passed away on March 1st at a hospital, while serving multiple life sentences for the murders of infants born alive.

Gosnell’s West Philadelphia clinic wasn’t a medical facility; it was a “house of horrors,” a place where routine abortions extended far beyond legal limits. Former employees bravely testified to a chilling reality – the delivery of viable babies, moving, breathing, and crying.

These weren’t miscarriages or stillbirths. The testimony revealed a deliberate and horrifying practice: Gosnell and his staff systematically ended the lives of these newborns by severing their spinal cords, a procedure he coldly referred to as “snipping.”

The sheer brutality of Gosnell’s actions led to convictions on three counts of first-degree murder. But the horrors didn’t stop there. His clinic also operated as a clandestine pill mill, fueled by a relentless pursuit of profit.

Gosnell’s prescription drug operation was staggering in its scope. He escalated from writing hundreds of prescriptions a month in 2008 to over 2,300 by January 2010, charging exorbitant cash fees for controlled substances like oxycodone, alprazolam, and codeine.

The investigation that ultimately exposed Gosnell’s crimes began with a probe into illegal drug trafficking. What investigators uncovered was far more disturbing – a clinic steeped in filth, overflowing with bags and jars containing fetal remains, and stained with the grim evidence of unspeakable acts.

The clinic’s conditions were described as appalling: blood-soaked furniture, unsanitary medical instruments, and a pervasive, sickening odor. It was a place where basic standards of care were not only ignored but actively violated.

During his 2013 trial, Gosnell remained silent, offering no explanation for the atrocities committed within his clinic walls. His defense attempted to argue that any movement observed in the infants was merely postmortem twitching, a claim that failed to sway the jury.

Gosnell’s death marks the end of a chapter, but the echoes of his crimes will continue to resonate, serving as a stark reminder of the potential for darkness and the importance of unwavering vigilance in protecting the most vulnerable.
