A fatal fire broke out in a North York apartment building early Sunday morning, resulting in one death and multiple injuries, including a Toronto firefighter. The two-alarm blaze occurred at an apartment building on Victoria Park Avenue, south of Eglinton Avenue, around 2 a.m. Firefighters found one occupant in a fully involved unit upon arrival.
Two other residents of the building and a firefighter were hospitalized with unknown injuries. However, the firefighter's injuries were later reported to be minor. The two other occupants were treated for smoke inhalation. An investigation into the blaze is being conducted by police and the Ontario Fire Marshal's office.
A separate incident occurred in Brampton's north end, where a man was killed and five other men were injured in a late-night crash on Saturday. The collision involved two vehicles and occurred when a sedan allegedly ran a red light. The male passenger in the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that ran the red light and a passenger suffered life-threatening injuries, while another had life-altering injuries and the fourth had non-life-threatening wounds. The investigation into the crash is being handled by the major collision bureau, and charges are pending. All roads in the area have since reopened.
In another incident, a four-vehicle collision occurred early Sunday on Steeles Avenue at the northbound Highway 410 ramp in Brampton. Three people were rushed to a trauma center, including one with critical injuries that were later downgraded to non-life-threatening. Two other people were in stable condition, and all roads in the area have reopened.
