President Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States will engage China regarding alleged interference in the 2020 election.
He cited a large‑scale breach of U.S. voter data attributed to Chinese actors, claiming that 220 million voter records were compromised.
The compromised data allegedly includes personal identifiers such as names, addresses, phone numbers and party affiliation, information that could facilitate fraudulent voting activities.
Trump also warned of a broader Chinese influence operation targeting media outlets, business leaders and voting infrastructure, and referenced a Department of Homeland Security review that identified more than 250 000 noncitizen registrations in four states.
When questioned about potential countermeasures, the president said the issue occurred in the past and that the United States would discuss the matter with Chinese officials.
He suggested that the current relationship differs from that of 2020 and characterized the situation as reciprocal, noting that the United States also takes actions against China.
