During a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing, Senator Tommy Tuberville delivered a scathing critique of Dr. Anthony Fauci, calling for the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director to be arrested and imprisoned on the spot.
Tuberville alleged that Fauci’s actions contributed to the loss of 20,000 to 30,000 lives in Alabama alone, demanding that the public hold him accountable and face trial for the deaths he supposedly caused.
The hearing, chaired by Senator Rand Paul, had been preceded by the release of more than 1,100 pages of Fauci’s personal diary entries from 2019 to 2022. Those notes covered topics such as virus origins, public statements, interactions with the Trump administration, lockdown policies, and other related matters.
In his opening statement, Fauci described the proceedings as an “unhinged obsession” aimed at forcing him to say something that would lead to imprisonment. He invoked the Fifth Amendment and declined to answer questions under the guidance of his counsel.
During the session, one of Fauci’s attorneys repeatedly interrupted, insisting on sitting at the witness table despite instructions to remain behind it. The chairperson warned him, and he was subsequently removed from the room by security, prompting applause from the gallery.
Fauci maintained that he would not address inquiries regarding gain‑of‑function research, Wuhan laboratory funding and oversight, the Proximal Origin paper, lockdowns, school closures, vaccines, or related subjects.
Republican members noted that a presidential pardon does not shield a witness from the consequences of providing false testimony to Congress or engaging in certain state‑level actions.
