The NLEX Road Warriors are set to begin their journey in the Governors' Cup, with new coach Jimmy Alapag at the helm.
Alapag has made it clear that he wants the team to build on their success from the previous PBA Commissioner's Cup, despite their quarterfinals bust.
"I thought they had a great elimination round, unfortunately things didn't work out in the quarters," Alapag said in a recent press conference.
"My message to them was I don't care about what happened during the quarterfinals. What's important is for us to try to build on this success."
The Road Warriors had one of their best campaigns in the preceding conference under their predecessor, Jong Uichico, winning all but two of their elimination round assignments.
However, they failed to move forward, losing to No. 8 TNT twice despite holding a top seeding and twice-to-beat advantage.
Alapag believes that the team's last campaign was a valuable experience, and is looking to make a deeper run in the playoffs.
His long-term goal is to help the team grow not just as individuals, but as a family.
With a talented roster featuring guards like Robert Bolick, Schonny Winston, and Kevin Alas, Alapag is confident that the team has the potential to succeed.
He is set to face his baptism of fire on July 10, as the Road Warriors take on guest team Macau in the main game of the conference opener.
