A chilling wave of accusations has engulfed a Massachusetts doctor, escalating a case already marked by horrific allegations. Dr. Derrick Todd now faces over eighty new indictments, stemming from his years practicing as a rheumatologist and general practitioner at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.
The Suffolk County District Attorney announced a grand jury’s decision: 21 counts of rape, 59 counts of indecent assault and battery, and a single charge of assault with intent to rape. These charges dramatically expand the scope of the case against Todd, revealing a pattern of alleged abuse impacting dozens of patients over several years.
Prosecutors allege that while employed at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, Todd exploited his position of trust, conducting unnecessary and invasive breast and pelvic exams. The alleged abuse unfolded between 2017 and 2023, victimizing 22 individuals ranging in age from 17 to 56.
The District Attorney described the indictments as “extraordinary,” emphasizing the profound betrayal experienced by the victims. These women, seeking care and relief, were instead subjected to unspeakable violations by the very person they entrusted with their well-being.
This new indictment is separate from previous charges filed in Middlesex County, where Todd has already pleaded not guilty to 22 counts of rape and indecent assault and battery. He is also currently facing multiple medical malpractice lawsuits, including a class action complaint signed by hundreds of former patients.
Prosecutors are calling the case unprecedented, citing the sheer scale of the alleged victimization and the lasting trauma inflicted upon the survivors. The magnitude of the alleged abuse is unlike anything investigators have previously encountered.
The District Attorney expressed deep gratitude to the courageous survivors who have come forward, assisting prosecutors in building their case. He affirmed unwavering support for each victim, promising to stand with them throughout the legal proceedings.
An arraignment date for the new charges in Suffolk Superior Court is pending. The legal team for Dr. Todd has stated they have received no information regarding the new indictments and currently have no comment.
