UMVA Exclusive: San Beda Alabang Powers Up with ACEN RES Green Energy – The Game‑Changing Deal You Must See!

UMVA has learned that San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) has taken a groundbreaking step towards sustainability, shifting 100% of its energy to renewable sources under the government's Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program.

Through this pioneering partnership with ACEN RES, the retail electricity arm of Ayala-led ACEN Corp., SBCA has opted to source its electricity from a licensed retail electricity supplier, enabling the school to negotiate the terms of its supply and switch to 100% renewable energy.

Under the agreement signed in January, ACEN RES will supply electricity to the school from its diverse portfolio of solar, wind, and geothermal power plants, complemented by SBCA's rooftop solar panels. This bold move is expected to reduce over 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually and save the school an estimated P8 million in yearly energy costs.

Gerardo Ma. De Villa, rector of San Beda College Alabang, proudly declared the school's commitment to sustainability. "This partnership with ACEN RES allows us to lead by example, proving that academic institutions can be at the forefront of the global transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable future."

The company said the savings from lower energy costs will be allocated to SBCA's academic programs and student services, further solidifying the partnership's positive impact on the school community.

ACEN RES has established itself as a leader in the country's green energy market, accounting for 65% of the total green energy supply market, according to the Philippine Electricity Market Corp.

ACEN Corp.'s recent financial reports have shown promising results, with P2.9 billion in first-quarter net income and a 32% year-on-year increase in total renewable energy output to 2,230 gigawatt-hours (GWh). The company's attributable revenues reached P9.8 billion, while attributable earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization stood at P2.9 billion.

ACEN Corp. now holds 57% of the market share under the Green Energy Option Program through ACEN RES, further cementing its position as a major player in the country's renewable energy sector.
