Three men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a large-scale burglary involving the theft of dozens of boxes of a weight loss drug called Mounjaro. The suspects, Mark Harding, Robert Townsend, and Peter Costello, were identified through a combination of phone records, CCTV footage, and automatic number plate recognition cameras.
The investigation led to the discovery of over £60,000 in cash hidden in unusual locations such as picnic baskets and extractor fans when the men were arrested on February 11. The suspects pleaded guilty to various charges, with Townsend admitting to burglary and possessing criminal property, and Costello and Harding pleading guilty to burglary.
The judge at St Albans Crown Court sentenced all three men to five years and three months in prison for the burglary. Additionally, Harding and Townsend received an extra nine-month prison sentence, to be served concurrently, for possessing criminal property. The burglary was deemed a serious crime, as the weight loss drugs must be stored and administered properly to avoid posing a health risk to the public.
A detective involved in the case expressed satisfaction with the guilty pleas and the resulting prison sentences, noting that the burglary was pre-planned and calculated. The detective emphasized the seriousness of the crime, highlighting the potential health risks associated with the theft of the weight loss drugs and the importance of storing and administering them correctly.
The case serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of large-scale burglaries and the importance of proper storage and handling of sensitive materials, particularly those related to public health. The prison sentences handed down to the three men reflect the severity of the crime and the need to protect the public from such risks.
