James Lewis, beloved by daytime television viewers for his expertise onBargain Hunt, has revealed a deeply personal chapter in his life: his marriage to Ed Otter last September.
The couple chose an intimate celebration, sharing their vows before fifty close friends and family. Lewis’s 17-year-old daughter, Arabella, was a vital part of the day, and now affectionately refers to both men as “Dad.”
Their story began unexpectedly, fifteen years ago, over a game of pool in a Derbyshire pub. Lewis described it as almost instant connection, a welcome turning point after a difficult separation from Arabella’s mother. He simply felt ready for something new.
Initially, the couple dreamed of eloping, envisioning a secluded ceremony amidst the majestic landscapes of Yellowstone National Park. However, their plans quickly shifted when they realized the importance of including their loved ones, especially Arabella.
Arabella’s heartfelt question – “Which one of you is going to walk me up the aisle?” – solidified their decision. She envisioned a wide aisle, allowing both her fathers to share that special moment, making her presence at the wedding non-negotiable.
Otter isn’t just Lewis’s husband; he’s also a valued colleague, working as the Toys, Trains and Juvenalia Specialist at Bamfords Auctioneers, the auction house Lewis founded with his parents in 2002.
Lewis’s life has faced unexpected challenges, including two harrowing cardiac arrests, one in 2013 and another in 2019. During one incident, his heart raced to an alarming 250 beats per minute, a frightening experience that even occurred on his wedding day.
Despite these health scares, Lewis remains deeply committed to his passions. He’s been a dedicated patron of the Born Free Foundation for 24 years, a cause close to his heart.
Remarkably, his 2019 cardiac arrest occurred just before a Guinness World Record charity auction benefiting Born Free. Driven by his dedication, he persevered and successfully completed the auction, raising an incredible quarter of a million pounds for wildlife charities.
