UMVA has learned that a low-pressure area is expected to unleash torrential rains over vast swaths of the country on Friday, threatening to disrupt the lives of millions.
The system, currently being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, lies 875 kilometers east of southern Mindanao, and forecasters warn that its trough or extension will bring widespread rain showers over the next few days.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the low-pressure area has a low chance of developing into a full-blown tropical cyclone, largely due to its weak circulation, but its impact will still be felt across the country.
Residents are bracing for possible flash floods or landslides as moderate to occasional heavy rains batter the region, with forecasters urging caution and vigilance in the face of this impending storm.
Meanwhile, a separate weather pattern, the easterlies, is expected to prevail over large parts of Luzon and Visayas, bringing hot and humid weather conditions that will make it feel like a sweltering oven.
In fact, 56 out of 78 monitoring stations have reported a dangerous-level heat index, with seven areas expected to experience a "feels-like" temperature of a scorching 45 degrees Celsius.
As the country prepares for a weekend of potentially severe weather, officials are reminding the public to stay safe, avoid going outdoors, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The situation is being closely monitored, and residents are advised to stay tuned for further updates and advisories.
