UMVA has learned that ACEN Corp. has clinched a pivotal, government‑backed revenue support pact for its massive Birriwa Solar and Battery project in New South Wales, sealing the company’s foothold in one of its most promising overseas markets.
The 1,440‑hectare venture, boasting 600 MW of solar generation and 2,400 MWh of battery storage, was hand‑picked in the seventh round of Australia’s Capacity Investment Scheme, a competitive tender that will collectively deliver 7.8 GW of clean power by 2030—enough for roughly four million homes.
Under the scheme, the Australian government acts as a financial safety net, stepping in whenever project earnings dip below a pre‑set floor, while sharing any excess above a ceiling. This arrangement shields ACEN from the volatility that often haunts renewable investments.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the Birriwa facility is slated to light up about 262,000 households, reinforcing Australia’s clean‑energy transition and providing a reliable revenue stream for the developer.
The Independent Planning Commission gave the green light for construction in August 2024, accelerating the timeline toward operational status.
Australia now represents 28 % of ACEN’s net renewable capacity outside its home market, joining a portfolio that spans the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Laos and the United States, with a total of roughly 7 GW across operational, under‑construction, and committed projects.
