A hospital worker in Hungary has been arrested on suspicion of using human remains for food, Hungarian officials have reported.
A 30-year-old man from Budapest was taken into custody by police after a search of his home turned up a large collection of human body parts, including a prepared face, bones, a lower leg, brain, hand, and skulls.
The man told police that he was attracted to human body parts and had prepared them for food, consuming them in various ways, according to authorities.
It is believed that the man obtained the body parts through his work at a hospital and by digging up bodies in abandoned cemeteries in Slovakia and Hungary.
Police have seized the man's computer, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and SIM and data cards as part of their investigation.
The recovered body parts will be examined by forensic experts to determine their origin, which could potentially lead to additional charges against the man.
The man is currently being held on suspicion of illegally using human remains, but the range of crimes could expand once the origin of all the body parts is determined.
