A family’s nightmare, unfolding over years, has taken another turn with a fifth arrest in a case marked by violence and relentless pursuit. It began with a brazen shooting in a Vaughan cafe parking lot, leaving one man fighting for his life.
Michael Costa survived that November 2020 attack, but the danger hadn’t passed. Just two months later, the threat resurfaced with terrifying force. Two men stormed into a Bolton home, unleashing a barrage of gunfire.
Again, Michael Costa was wounded, defying the odds. But this time, the violence claimed a life. Giovanni “John” Costa, 65, Michael’s father, was found dead inside the home, shattering a family and launching a complex, years-long investigation.
Investigators quickly determined the two shootings were connected, a deliberate and escalating campaign of violence. The search for answers stretched across years, slowly yielding results as detectives pieced together the puzzle.
The first arrest came in January 2022, with Jordan Andall charged with being an accessory to the murder. Then, in late 2025, a series of arrests followed: Christopher Brown, Neheniah Tirfe, and Elias Akhi, each facing serious charges including attempted murder and first-degree murder.
This week, a fifth suspect, Damion Ryan, 45, of Ottawa, was taken into custody, also charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy. He awaits a court appearance in April, adding another layer to this intricate case.
Despite these arrests, the investigation remains far from over. Two men remain at large, considered armed and dangerous. Filmon Fesshaghirgis, 27, and Waheed Barakziye, 48, are both wanted on Canada-wide and Ontario-wide warrants respectively, facing the most serious charges in the case.
Authorities believe both wanted men frequent the London and Greater Toronto Area, urging the public to avoid them and immediately contact 911 if spotted. The hunt continues, fueled by a determination to bring all those responsible to justice.
A $50,000 reward remains available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Giovanni Costa’s murder. Investigators are appealing to anyone with knowledge of the case, no matter how small, to come forward and help close this chapter.
