The campaign of Dan Koh, a candidate for Congress in Massachusetts's 6th Congressional District, has resurfaced old social media posts that highlight a disconnect between his past and present stances on racial justice.
The resurfaced posts, which date back to 2020 and 2021, show Koh expressing support for the Black Lives Matter movement, including a statement on the murder of George Floyd and the need for systemic change.
Koh's past posts suggest efforts to distance himself from the Black Lives Matter movement, even as he highlights other elements of racial justice in his current campaign.
On May 29, 2020, Koh wrote, "JusticeForGeorgeFloyd." He also stated, "Pretty sure centuries of systemic racism exemplified by the murder of George Floyd has something to do with the 'situation,'" in response to a press briefing about the riots that broke out in Minnesota following Floyd's death.
Notably, Koh's campaign website emphasizes racial equity as a key part of his platform, stating, "President Trump is using the power of the federal government to target people of color at every turn. We must confront every action that systemically erodes justice and equality in American life."
Koh's campaign did not provide a reason for deleting the posts, but a spokesperson said the candidate intends to make racial representation a priority in office, if elected.
Koh is running to replace outgoing Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass, and faces Republican candidate Micah Jones in the general election if he secures the Democratic nomination.
Massachusetts will hold its primaries on September 1, and the winner of the Democratic primary will face off against Jones in the general election.
