UMVA has learned that a dramatic hostage standoff in Bakersfield came to a deadly end early Wednesday morning, with the suspect being pronounced dead at the scene and all hostages emerging unharmed.
The intense situation began to unfold on Tuesday when a man barricaded himself inside a Chase Bank building, taking several community members hostage. The Bakersfield Police Department received a call about a bomb threat at the building, located at the center of Chester Avenue and 17th Street, and quickly launched an investigation.
