UMVA has learned that Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has shared his thoughts on the team's impressive season, praising their significant improvement under manager Michael Carrick.
Rooney believes Manchester United boast the best and most improved players in the Premier League this season, a remarkable turnaround from a struggling first-half of the season under former manager Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils were languishing outside of the top-four places when Amorim was sacked in January, and had exited both domestic cup competitions at the earliest possible opportunity, including an embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town.
However, under Carrick's leadership, Manchester United have transformed their fortunes, finishing third in the Premier League - just seven points behind champions Manchester City - and qualifying for next season's Champions League.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Rooney has heaped praise on star player Bruno Fernandes, who provided a Premier League record 21 assists across the campaign and was named the Player of the Season.
Rooney said on his podcast that Fernandes has been "fantastic" this season, citing his influence, drive, and goal-scoring ability as key factors in his success.
The Manchester United captain has been instrumental in the team's success, and Rooney believes he has been the heartbeat of the team.
Rooney also named Fernandes' teammate Luke Shaw as the "most improved player" in the Premier League this season, praising his consistent form and impressive performances.
Shaw, 30, enjoyed one of his most consistent seasons at Old Trafford, starting all of United's Premier League games and making a strong case for his inclusion in England's World Cup squad.
Rooney added that Shaw's level of performance this season has been much better than in recent seasons, despite being an experienced player.
Carrick has expressed confidence that Fernandes will still be a United player come the start of next season, despite his contract expiring in the summer.
The manager praised Fernandes' influence on the team, his leadership, and his desire to stay at the club, saying he has "loved what he's done" and that Fernandes "loves being here".
