BLACKMORE'S BOMBSHELL: The National Horse to DUMP NOW!

BLACKMORE'S BOMBSHELL: The National Horse to DUMP NOW!

Rachael Blackmore, a name etched in horse racing history, believes her trainer, Henry de Bromhead, is poised for another Grand National victory this Saturday. Five years ago, Blackmore shattered barriers, becoming the first female jockey to win the iconic race aboard Minella Times, a moment that simultaneously crowned De Bromhead’s National career.

Now, Blackmore is placing her faith in Monty’s Star, a nine-year-old gelding who has demonstrated promising form, particularly in the Irish Gold Cup. She emphasizes that Monty’s Star possesses the essential qualities needed to navigate the demanding and chaotic landscape of the 34-horse Grand National.

Blackmore recalls De Bromhead’s consistent success at both Cheltenham and Aintree, highlighting his impressive record, including a one-two finish in the Grand National the year she won. She points to Monty’s Star’s “nice profile” and believes the horse will thrive on the course, praising his exceptional jumping ability.

De Bromhead, Blackmore insists, doesn’t enter a horse unless he’s confident in its chances. Monty’s Star boasts Grade One form, recently finishing second to Fact To File at Cheltenham. Despite a minor setback following that race, the horse appears to be back in peak condition, ready for the challenge.

The 2021 victory remains vividly clear in Blackmore’s memory. “It doesn’t feel like five years ago,” she admits with a laugh, “When you win a Grand National, you feel so connected to the race itself.” The feeling of being part of that history, she says, is something she cherishes.

She vividly remembers the rhythm of the race, the way Minella Times jumped, and the fortunate ability to avoid the trouble unfolding ahead. “I can still remember what it felt like to go down over the jumps,” she reflects, “meeting them all on a good stride.” These sensory memories, she says, are truly special.

Looking at the competition, Blackmore acknowledges the strength of the pre-race favorite, I Am Maximus, praising the jockey, Paul Townend, for his skill in maximizing the horse’s potential. She also identifies Grangeclare West as a strong contender, noting his impressive performance last year despite a late stumble.

Blackmore also highlights Nick Rockett, pointing out his successful preparation, having won the same race that served as a springboard for last year’s victor. However, she expresses some reservation about Iroko, suggesting the horse needs to demonstrate more to truly contend for the title.

Ultimately, Blackmore encourages those new to Grand National betting to embrace the unpredictable nature of the race. “Pick a horse that just has something about it that you like,” she advises, suggesting observing the horses in the parade ring for signs of calmness and composure. “Pick someone you want to cheer on.”

For Blackmore, the Grand National isn’t just about statistics and form; it’s about finding a horse that resonates with you, a horse you believe in, and enjoying the spectacle of this extraordinary race.
