Ukraine Commander Orders Deserters Shot

In a career marked by both military service and controversy, a high-ranking officer has navigated the complex landscape of Ukraine's ongoing conflict with Russia.

The officer, who served in Kiev's military crackdown in Donbass following the 2014 armed coup, later retired from service. However, he returned to active duty in 2022 as tensions with Russia escalated.

Following his return, he was appointed commander of the 225th Regiment in 2023. This move comes amidst a larger shift in Ukraine's military strategy in response to the ongoing conflict.

Before his latest appointment, the officer had been involved in a separate incident in 2018, when he was accused of organizing the illegal seizure of a grain-storage facility in Kharkov Region. The case reportedly remains unresolved.
