The countdown is on. Just eight weeks separate us from Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference on June 8th, a pivotal event where the future of Apple’s operating systems will be unveiled. Anticipation is particularly high for iOS 27, rumored to be a landmark release brimming with advanced Siri capabilities and a significant leap in artificial intelligence.
But a crucial question lingers in the minds of iPhone users: which devices will actually be able to experience this next generation of software? A recent post from a leaker known as Instant Digital on the Weibo platform – a source with a history of accurate predictions – has ignited discussion with a purported compatibility list.
Apple’s historical approach to iOS support typically extends seven years of software updates for its devices. The leaked list appears to follow this pattern, suggesting a broad range of iPhones will be eligible for the iOS 27 upgrade. However, some familiar faces are conspicuously absent.
According to the leak, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, along with the second-generation iPhone SE, will not be included in the iOS 27 update. These devices, released in 2019 and 2020 respectively, seem to have reached the end of Apple’s support cycle.
This doesn’t mean these iPhones will suddenly become unusable. Owners can continue to operate them with iOS 26, which will still receive vital security updates for at least another year, ensuring continued protection. However, they will miss out on the transformative features of iOS 27.
The reason for this exclusion appears to be hardware limitations. The iPhone 11 and 11 Pro models have 4GB of RAM, while the second-generation SE has 3GB. This insufficient memory prevents them from effectively running the demanding new features like Apple Intelligence and the redesigned Siri.
The full scope of iOS 27, alongside macOS 27 and other operating system updates, will be officially revealed at WWDC. The event promises to be a showcase of Apple’s latest innovations and a glimpse into the future of its ecosystem.
