A substantial P3.81 billion investment is poised to reshape water infrastructure over the next year, a critical move to fortify water security for hundreds of thousands of people. This isn't simply about budgets and projects; it’s a proactive response to the looming threat of a potentially severe El Niño season and the challenges it presents to consistent water availability.
The ambitious plan centers on a three-pronged approach: expanding the network, modernizing existing systems, and aggressively tackling water loss. Crews will be laying down new pipelines, replacing aging infrastructure struggling to meet demand, and connecting over 86,000 new households to the water supply.
Beyond expansion, a significant focus will be placed on minimizing “non-revenue water” – the water lost through leaks, illegal connections, and inherent system inefficiencies. This represents a direct commitment to maximizing the value of every drop, ensuring more water reaches those who need it most.
Company leadership emphasizes that these investments aren’t just about reacting to a crisis, but about building long-term resilience. The goal is to create a robust and reliable water system capable of weathering climate challenges and supporting sustained growth for communities.
The strategy extends beyond traditional sources, with a rapid acceleration of alternative water projects. Construction is underway on desalination facilities capable of producing 65 million liters of water daily, alongside modular treatment plants adding another 5 million liters per day to the supply.
Currently, this vital water service reaches approximately 860,000 residents across Iloilo City, Dumaguete City, and seven surrounding municipalities. This expansion and modernization effort promises to significantly improve the quality of life for these communities and prepare them for an uncertain future.
The undertaking is driven by a larger investment corporation, but the core mission remains laser-focused: delivering clean, reliable water access. This commitment underscores a dedication to public service and responsible resource management in the face of growing environmental pressures.
