Socialists Unveil Ambitious Reform Plan to Abolish US Senate, Sparking Debate on America's Constitutional Future

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), a prominent socialist political group in the U.S., is set to unveil an updated policy platform that includes sweeping reforms to the country's governance structure and social policies.

The organization plans to roll out the updated platform next week, which includes eliminating the U.S. Senate and replacing the president and the Supreme Court with an executive branch and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.

The updated platform also calls for amnesty for all immigrants and defunding the Department of War, in addition to existing policies advocating for free migration, full voting rights for people with criminal convictions and noncitizens, and an immediate end to all deportations.

The DSA has experienced a surge in relevance in recent years, with several of its members defeating long-time establishment party figures and prompting speculation about its potential role in shaping the future of the Democratic Party.

Several prominent DSA members, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, have been endorsed by the group, and its most prominent member is New York City socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who defeated former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2025.

The group has continued to gain momentum, with four of its endorsed candidates defeating sitting Democratic members of Congress in recent months, emboldening the DSA's position as a "working-class alternative to the Democratic Party.".

The DSA's existing platform includes proposals for a 32-hour work week, Medicare for all, cancellation of student loan debt, elimination of cash bail, and universal rent control, as well as a "new democratic constitution" that would establish civil, political, and democratic rights for all based on proportional representation in a "single federal legislature."
