GAS CRISIS AVERTED? Fuel Flows Return This Fall!

Deep beneath the waters off Palawan, a vital energy source is poised to surge back to life. Operators have successfully completed drilling on a new well, signaling a potential boost to the nation’s power supply by the final months of this year.

The Camago-3 well, a key component of a substantial development campaign, has yielded promising results. Initial tests revealed gas production rates reaching an impressive 60 million standard cubic feet per day, directly replenishing the reserves of the Malampaya gas field.

This single well represents a monumental achievement, effectively doubling the potential gas output from the existing Malampaya reserves. Experts estimate the discovery to be two and a half times larger than a previous find earlier this year, marking a significant turning point for the project.

The ambitious $893-million Phase 4 development isn’t just about immediate gains; it’s about longevity. These new wells are projected to extend the operational lifespan of the Malampaya field by roughly six years, securing a consistent flow of locally sourced natural gas to the Luzon power grid.

A collaborative effort between Prime Energy and its partners – UC38 LLC, Prime Oil & Gas, Inc., and PNOC Exploration Corporation – is driving this project forward with remarkable efficiency. The team is already preparing for the next phase: exploration of the Bagong Pag-asa well, located 30 kilometers north of the existing field.

Should the Bagong Pag-asa well prove successful, rigorous testing will determine its production capabilities. The positive results from Camago-3 have instilled a renewed sense of optimism regarding the untapped potential still hidden within the Malampaya region.

This project, officially recognized as a matter of national significance, has already delivered over $14 billion in revenue to the Philippine government since its inception. Beyond the economic benefits, Malampaya has played a crucial role in lessening the country’s reliance on costly imported fuels.

The renewed vigor of Malampaya promises a more stable and reliable power supply for Filipino consumers, fueled by a valuable indigenous resource. This latest development isn’t just about energy; it’s about securing a brighter, more self-sufficient future.
