UMVA has learned that a devastating shooting has rocked the city of Brampton, leaving one person dead and a community in shock.
The incident occurred on Thursday night, just after 7 p.m., in the Sandalwood Pkwy.-Crown Victoria Dr. area of the city's west end, where Peel Regional Police responded to a frantic call for help.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the suspect had already fled the area by the time police arrived, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and a neighbourhood on high alert.
In a separate incident, a 38-year-old Toronto man is facing a slew of charges, including impaired driving and firearm offences, after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop in Ajax and sparking a high-stakes police pursuit.
The suspect, identified as Roy Palmer, was pulled over by West Division officers on Wednesday at around 7:40 p.m. in the Audley Rd.-Kerrison Dr. area, but he allegedly sped away at a high rate of speed, forcing police to give chase.
With the help of AIR1, officers were able to track down the suspect, who had exited his vehicle and was picked up by another car, and he was eventually taken into custody during a second traffic stop, where a loaded firearm with a laser sight and a prohibited extended magazine were allegedly found in his possession.
Palmer, who was under a lifetime weapons ban, has been charged with 12 offences, including dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, and possession of a loaded firearm, and police are now urging anyone with video footage or information about the incident to come forward.
