Blitzer, disoriented and terrified, felt the weight of the officer pressing down as the gunfire continued. The shooter, later identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, had been a registered guest at the hotel. He was armed with a chilling arsenal – a shotgun, handgun, multiple knives, and a weapon he’d assembled on the spot. The attack unfolded near the entrance, where President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance were among the hundreds in attendance.
Amidst the pandemonium, a Secret Service agent was struck by gunfire, but thankfully, his bulletproof vest absorbed the impact, saving his life. The immediate response was swift and decisive. Officers quickly subdued Allen, pinning him to the ground even as shots continued to ring out.
