A Deputy U.S. Marshal assigned to the Western District of Louisiana was shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant on a fugitive in Alexandria. The shooting occurred at approximately 3 p.m. during a joint law enforcement operation involving members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and detectives from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were attempting to apprehend a wanted fugitive in the Rutland Road area when gunfire erupted. The deputy marshal was killed in the line of duty, but officials have not yet released their identity, pending notification of family members.
The suspect is in custody, and the FBI is leading the federal investigation into the fatal shooting. The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police are conducting related state investigations.

The suspect sustained injuries during the standoff and was transported to a local hospital. Neighbors reported being shaken by what they witnessed, with one resident describing hearing multiple gunshots and immediately moving to protect her children.
The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, described the sound of the gunfire as "boom, boom, boom, boom, boom." She also expressed shock at the incident, saying the suspect was a good man who lived a few houses from the scene and was always in good spirits.
