The US Supreme Court has made a significant ruling, rejecting President Trump's bid to toss E Jean Carroll's sexual abuse case. The decision means that President Trump will have to pay E. Jean Carroll $5 million.
A Manhattan jury previously reached a verdict in the E. Jean Carroll rape/defamation case, ordering Trump to pay her $5 million. The case stems from allegations made by E. Jean Carroll in 2019, claiming that Donald Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s.
Trump has denied the allegations and referred to E. Jean Carroll as a "whack job" who's "not my type." However, the jury decided that E. Jean Carroll proved Trump sexually abused her when he 'inserted fingers into her vagina.'
In a separate defamation case brought by E. Jean Carroll, Trump was ordered to pay $83.3 million in damages to Carroll in January 2024. The decision comes as the Justice Department launches an investigation into the funding E. Jean Carroll received by billionaire Reid Hoffman for lawsuits against President Trump.
Responding to the Supreme Court's decision, President Trump expressed his disappointment, stating that the case was "Fake" and a "Weaponization and Lawfare Case against me." Trump vowed to continue fighting against the case, claiming that it was "tailormade" to wrongfully target him.
