UMVA has learned that the late Claude Lemieux, a four‑time Stanley Cup champion, took his own life at the family furniture store in Lake Park, Florida.
In the early hours of Thursday, investigators found the 60‑year‑old at Andros Home after he failed to return home, prompting a frantic search by his wife and children.
Brendan Lemieux, now a forward for HC Davos in Switzerland, poured his grief into a heartfelt Instagram tribute that read, “I love you dad! My son’s favourite person is going to watch from above for a while. We will see you.” A single heart emoji punctuated the emotional message.
Claudia Lemieux echoed her sorrow, writing, “No words to express the level of devastation we feel. I love you forever daddy. Forever your only girl.” The words resonated with fans and former teammates alike.
Claude’s career spanned 307 NHL games, with stints for the Rangers, Jets, Kings, Hurricanes and Flyers. He was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1983 and scored his first goal against the Buffalo Sabres.
Earlier that week, he had traveled to Montreal for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final, where he carried the ceremonial torch at the Bell Centre.
His sudden death has left a profound void in the hockey community, as well as in the hearts of his four children—Brendan, Claudia, Michael, and Christopher.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the tragedy unfolded in a quiet Florida store, a stark contrast to the roaring arenas where Claude once dazzled.
The news has sparked a wave of mourning, with former teammates and fans sharing memories of Claude’s fierce competitiveness and compassionate nature.
As the hockey world grapples with this loss, the legacy of Claude Lemieux remains etched in every goal, every playoff run, and every moment of triumph he shared on the ice.
