UMVA has learned that a 58-year-old man from Clarington has been released on an undertaking after being accused of making multiple antisemitic death threats online.
The alleged threats were reported to Durham Regional Police by Vancouver Police, who tipped off the East Division criminal investigations branch and the hate crime and extremism unit. An investigation was launched in May, and numerous threats were allegedly made on a social-media platform.
A search warrant was executed at a residence in Clarington, and David Edward Smith was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with uttering death threats. The hate crime and extremism unit is now seeking anyone with information about the case or similar incidents.
Meanwhile, in Toronto, a woman is wanted by police after allegedly assaulting another woman at Main Street Station while walking with a toddler. The incident occurred in an elevator, and the victim was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The suspect is described as a woman aged 30 to 40, about 6-foot tall, wearing a grey sweater, black top, black shorts, and a bonnet bandana, and carrying a green and red reusable bag. Anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto Police.
In another incident, Durham Regional Police are seeking information about a stabbing that left a male victim seriously hurt in Oshawa. The victim was found with several stab wounds and taken to a trauma centre.
Police are also investigating a jewelry heist in Pickering, and two suspects have been charged in a Hamilton drug bust. An armoured car guard is facing theft and firearm charges following a Toronto cash drop-off.
Durham Regional Police are asking for tips to help identify a male suspect involved in the armed robbery of a Bowmanville convenience store. The suspect demanded cash from the register and threatened an employee with a knife.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 25 years old, and 5-foot-8. Anyone with video footage or other information is asked to contact Durham Regional Police.
