A chilling wave of violence has gripped parts of the Greater Toronto Area, culminating in charges against three individuals and a manhunt for a fourth. The investigation centers around a series of brazen shootings that unfolded on March 4th, leaving three people wounded and sparking a complex probe into a dangerous conflict.
At the heart of the investigation is Daykwon Joseph, 21, of Toronto, already wanted for his alleged role in the shootings. These incidents weren’t isolated acts, but rather linked to a fierce and escalating dispute known as the GTA’s “tow truck war” – a battle for control that has spilled onto the streets, endangering innocent lives.
The violence erupted at two tow yards and a gas station, specifically in the Weston Rd. and St. Clair Ave. West, and the Lawrence Ave. East and Warden Ave. areas. Investigators dubbed the operation “Project Nighthawk,” recognizing the widespread nature of the incidents and the urgent need to bring those responsible to justice.
On March 16th, the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force executed search warrants, focusing on a vehicle and a residence near Wilson Ave. and Keele St. The search of the vehicle yielded a shocking discovery: a firearm found on one of the occupants, identified as Zahki Wong-Campbell, 18, of Toronto.
The situation escalated further at the residence, where investigators uncovered two additional firearms. The combined seizures represent a significant blow to the individuals allegedly fueling the conflict and a substantial amount of weaponry removed from the streets.
Daykwon Joseph now faces a staggering list of charges, including one count of attempted murder, nineteen firearm-related offences, and three counts of possessing property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000. The severity of the charges underscores the gravity of the alleged crimes.
Zahki Wong-Campbell has been charged with nineteen firearm-related offences, while Tatiana Brown, 20, of Vaughan, faces eleven similar charges. The investigation continues to unravel the network of individuals involved in these dangerous activities.
Authorities are actively searching for Malachi Wong, 21, of Toronto, who is wanted on ten firearm-related offences. His capture is considered crucial to fully resolving the case and preventing further violence.
Anyone with information regarding Malachi Wong’s whereabouts, or any details related to the shootings, is urged to contact the police. Confidentiality is assured, and every piece of information, no matter how small, could be vital to bringing all those responsible to justice.
