Halton Regional Police unveiled a new building on the border between Milton and Halton Hills, designed to support the growing demand for policing services in the area.
The new station, located at the far east end of Milton's current expansion, will replace the current 12 Division Milton facility and consolidate 1 District command and police operations into a single site.
According to Chief Stephen Tanner, the new building will allow the service to meet the needs of a fast-growing community, with a population expected to increase by 132,000 by 2051.
The new facility is designed to support innovation and modern operations, with enhanced sustainability features including heat recovery technology and rooftop solar photovoltaics.
The building will result in a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of about 31% and will provide renewable energy generation of 20-25% of the annual electrical consumption.
Milton Mayor Gordon Krants noted that the area is expected to grow significantly, and that the new station will be in the centre of growth in 20 years' time.
The new station will be home to all 1 District operations, the backup 911 and data centre, and full district lockup.
The 66,000-square-foot facility is designed to support the needs of a growing community, and will allow the service to increase its deployment of officers year over year to reflect the continued growth of both Milton and Halton Hills.
The new building is a key part of the service's plans to meet the needs of the community, and will provide a stronger and more coordinated response to the expected growth and continued growth of the area.
