BLOODSHED AT IU: 9 Shot – Manhunt Underway!

A celebration turned to chaos early Sunday morning in Bloomington, Indiana, as gunfire erupted near Indiana University, injuring nine people. The violence unfolded around 12:25 a.m. on East Kirkwood Avenue, a location already teeming with life after the annual "Little 500" cycling race.

Police were already present, monitoring a massive crowd estimated between 2,000 and 3,000 people when a fight broke out between two women. The situation rapidly deteriorated, escalating from a physical altercation to a terrifying exchange of gunfire.

Investigators believe two individuals discharged firearms amidst the panicked crowd. As shots rang out, a wave of fear surged through the area, sending people scrambling for safety. Officers immediately rushed towards the sound of the gunfire, initiating a search for victims.

Five individuals sustained injuries directly from gunfire or bullet fragments. Others were hurt while attempting to escape the escalating danger, suffering cuts and abrasions in the frantic rush. The injured ranged in age, with five of the shooting victims being women between 17 and 22 years old.

Fortunately, most of those injured were treated and released. However, one young woman remains hospitalized in stable condition. Authorities are meticulously reviewing cellphone footage and security camera recordings from nearby businesses, hoping to piece together the events of the night.

Police have confirmed that none of the injured were students at Indiana University. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and the identities of the two male shooters are still under investigation. Officials emphasize the incident wasn’t a random act of violence.

Prior to the gunfire, the gathering had been peaceful, according to police. The Bloomington Police Department has a long-standing tradition of extensive preparation for the "Little 500," anticipating the large influx of visitors.

Bloomington’s mayor expressed profound sadness over the incident, unequivocally condemning the gun violence. The community is grappling with the shock of the event, and thoughts are with those who were injured and their families.

The "Little 500" is a nationally recognized collegiate cycling race, drawing participants and spectators from across the country. This year’s event, however, will be remembered for a night of unexpected and devastating violence.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focused on identifying the shooters and understanding the circumstances that led to the eruption of gunfire. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available.
