A quiet Jacksonville street became the scene of unimaginable cruelty. A 64-year-old woman now faces felony charges after allegedly driving over a family of ducklings, not once, but repeatedly.
On April 25th, a couple witnessed a red Honda Accord deliberately target a group of vulnerable baby ducks on Tempest Street. The driver, according to authorities, executed a series of chilling U-turns to ensure each duckling was struck.
The couple, horrified by what they saw, confronted the woman days later. Her explanation was chillingly matter-of-fact: she intentionally killed the ducks because they had soiled her yard.
Surveillance footage, shared with investigators, paints a heartbreaking picture. The tiny bodies of the ducklings lie motionless in the street as the mother duck and her remaining offspring desperately attempt to flee the oncoming vehicle.
Investigators quickly identified Beverly Sasberry as the owner of the red Honda Accord. Following an interview, she was arrested and charged with eleven counts of felony animal cruelty.
A neighbor, Kyle Hutchinson, recounted a disturbing conversation with Sasberry after the incident. He claims she expressed a chilling desire to continue the violence, repeatedly stating she wanted to “kill more” and would “do it again.”
Hutchinson described Sasberry’s demeanor as cold and unapologetic, revealing a disturbing level of callousness towards the defenseless animals. The incident has left the community reeling in shock and disbelief.
The surviving mother duck and her remaining ducklings are left to mourn the loss of their family, a stark reminder of the senseless cruelty that unfolded on a seemingly ordinary street.
