UMVA has learned that Manchester United's veteran goalkeeper, Tom Heaton, has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with the club, delighting fans and Director of Football, Jason Wilcox.
The 40-year-old's terms were set to expire at the end of the month, but he has agreed to a 12-month extension, ensuring his leadership and professionalism continue to influence the team. Wilcox expressed his delight, stating, "We are delighted that Tom is continuing for another year. Everyone is well aware of the importance of his leadership and professionalism within the group."
Heaton's experience and expertise make him an invaluable character to have around the dressing room, particularly in supporting young goalkeeper Senne Lammens throughout his first season in the Premier League. Despite not playing for the first team since 2021, Heaton's dedication and mentality set a fantastic standard for the goalkeeping group.
As a three-capped England international, Heaton made the bench on five occasions last season, and his presence will continue to be felt as Lammens' mentor. The young Belgian goalkeeper has repaid the faith in him, overseeing a stellar maiden campaign and was named the Transfer of the Season by the Premier League.
With Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana expected to be sold in the coming months, a new goalkeeper is likely to be brought in to play second fiddle to Lammens, solidifying the team's goalkeeping department. This move marks Manchester United's first summer deal, with Wilcox issuing a statement to fans, confirming the news.
