A mother of two and long‑time postal worker was killed while delivering mail in Hayes, North Carolina, on Tuesday. The fatal shooting occurred just before 4:16 p.m. and left her children orphaned months after their father died in a December car accident.
Police identified the victim as Brandi Reynolds, a USPS mail carrier who had served the community for years. Authorities found her body at the scene and later arrested William Craig Durham, who faces charges of kidnapping and murder.
Investigators say Durham restrained Reynolds and moved her without her consent before the fatal shooting. No relationship between the two has been disclosed.
Reynolds’ husband, Brent, died in a car accident earlier this year, leaving the couple with two children who now lack parents.
In a previously shared photo caption, Reynolds wrote, “The reason I get up every morning. Love these babies. They are what makes life worth living.” She also expressed deep affection for her children in other posts, describing them as precious and wishing to protect them.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to uncover the motives behind the tragic event.
