Education Department Enhances Oversight of Local Government Classroom Construction Projects

The Department of Education has strengthened its project monitoring framework as it partners with 168 local government units to construct classrooms nationwide. This partnership aims to ensure that classrooms are built with efficiency and transparency, providing a quality learning environment for students. The department is working tirelessly to achieve this goal, with a focus on accountability and adherence to strict quality protocols. A total of 72 provinces, 73 cities, and 23 municipalities have signed agreements for the localized classroom building program.

The enhanced monitoring framework ensures that local infrastructure projects align with national timelines and adhere to technical standards, safety protocols, and procurement laws. All local government unit-implemented projects must strictly follow these guidelines. The department is also using a real-time digital validation and monitoring system to track construction progress and monitor the remaining local government units. This system enables the department to ensure that every project meets its high standards.

Currently, 130 of the 149 monitored local government units are conducting pre-procurement activities, including pre-bidding and preparation of detailed architectural and engineering designs. These activities cover construction requirements for 358 schools nationwide. Additionally, three local government units have advanced to the procurement award stage for 22 school sites. The department's goal is to construct quality and safe classrooms, with every peso spent translating into a better learning environment for students.

The localized classroom construction program is part of the department's efforts to address the current classroom gap of over 144,000. The department has allocated a significant budget for the construction of new classrooms and the repair and rehabilitation of existing ones. With a focus on transparency, accountability, and quality, the department is working to provide students with the infrastructure they need to succeed. The department's initiatives aim to ensure that every student has access to a quality learning environment, which is essential for their education and future success.
