Google just patched 30 high-risk Chrome security vulnerabilities

A silent battle rages beneath the surface of your everyday browsing. Google has just unleashed a significant security overhaul for Chrome, quietly patching a staggering thirty vulnerabilities in versions 147 for Windows, macOS, and Linux. These aren't theoretical threats; they represent potential gateways for malicious actors, swiftly neutralized before they could be exploited.

The fixes weren’t solely the result of external vigilance. While a vulnerability in WebRTC was responsibly reported by Mozilla, Google’s internal security teams uncovered the majority – roughly two-thirds – of these weaknesses, demonstrating a proactive commitment to safeguarding users. This internal discovery, ranging from CVE-2026-7333 to CVE-2026-7363, highlights the constant scrutiny applied to the browser’s core code.

Four of these vulnerabilities are classified as critical, each a dangerous “use-after-free” flaw. These occur when software attempts to access memory that has already been released, creating an opening for attackers to inject malicious code. Use-after-free vulnerabilities overwhelmingly dominate this update, representing nearly two-thirds of all the patched issues. A type confusion within the V8 JavaScript engine also received immediate attention.

Beyond the critical fixes, three additional vulnerabilities were categorized as medium risk, further emphasizing the breadth of this security sweep. This comprehensive approach underscores Google’s dedication to addressing vulnerabilities across the entire risk spectrum, not just the most immediately dangerous.

The good news is that Chrome typically handles updates seamlessly in the background. However, it’s wise to verify you’re running the latest version. Simply navigate to Help > About Google Chrome within the browser’s menu to initiate a manual check. This simple step can dramatically enhance your online security.

The mobile world hasn’t been overlooked. Chrome for Android also received the 147.0.7727.137 update, mirroring the protections implemented in the desktop versions. For users on the Extended Stable Channel for Windows and macOS, Chromium version 146.0.7680.216 is now available.

Looking ahead, the arrival of Chrome 148 is anticipated in early May. This continuous cycle of updates and improvements is a testament to the ongoing arms race against online threats, ensuring a safer browsing experience for everyone.
