A masked couple ascended to the spire of the Empire State Building on Wednesday afternoon and unfurled a large banner.
The banner displayed the message: “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”
During the stunt, the man appeared to propose marriage to the woman at the top of the iconic skyscraper.
Both individuals were taken into custody by police after the incident.
Approximately forty officers remained on the scene, directing traffic and securing the area around the building’s Fifth Avenue entrance, which was temporarily closed.
Pedestrians gathered on surrounding sidewalks to watch the unfolding event.
The Empire State Building, including its spire and antenna, reaches a height of 1,454 feet, ranking as the fourth‑tallest structure in New York City, the sixth‑tallest in the United States, and the 43rd tallest tower worldwide.
