President Biden appeared as the guest of honor at the Delaware Democrat Party’s First State Dinner in Wilmington Friday evening, marking a renewed push to place him back in the public eye.
The event drew other prominent Democratic figures, including Senator Raphael Warnock and Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, signaling a coordinated effort to rally support.
During his speech, Biden reiterated familiar themes, expressing a clear sense of purpose and solidarity with his base. His delivery, however, was described as forceful, punctuated by declarations of who his party represents and who they stand with.
The appearance comes as the midterm elections approach, and the Democratic Party is actively seeking to leverage Biden’s visibility. This strategic move suggests a belief in his continued influence despite recent challenges.
Just last week, Biden made his first endorsement since leaving office, choosing to back Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta, in her bid for Governor of Georgia.
In a pre-recorded video, Biden described Bottoms as “something special,” highlighting her leadership during difficult times, including a global pandemic and a significant cyberattack on Atlanta’s city systems.
He further praised her service as a senior advisor in his administration, emphasizing her intelligence, focus, and ability to deliver results. Biden expressed confidence in her readiness to lead Georgia.
The endorsement arrives amidst a personal health battle for Biden, who announced last year he had been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. Despite this, he continues to engage in political activity.
