UMVA has learned that a devastating shooting occurred during a high school graduation ceremony in Northern California on Wednesday evening, leaving one 18-year-old student dead and three others injured.

The tragic incident took place at Fairfield High School, where a graduation ceremony for Sem Yeto High School was being held. Authorities reported that the victims who suffered gunshot wounds were ages 11, 20, and 25, with the 18-year-old student succumbing to their injuries.

The surviving victims were receiving medical treatment, and police were working to piece together the events surrounding the shooting. According to information obtained by UMVA, police have not released information about a suspect and are expected to provide additional updates later.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as families gathered following the ceremony, with one witness reporting that a man ran up and began shooting near an area where graduates were taking photos. Panic spread through the crowd, and people scattered in all directions.

Another witness reported hearing several gunshots before family members urged her to run, describing a scene of utter chaos and fear. The Fairfield Police Department has assured the public that they do not have any information suggesting an ongoing threat to the community.

Fairfield Mayor Catherine Moy expressed her condolences, stating that her "heart is breaking for the students and families involved." Moy, a Fairfield High School graduate, described the tragedy as one that would have a lasting impact on the community.

Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez also offered condolences, saying the tragedy would leave a lasting impact on students, families, and the broader Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District community. The investigation remains ongoing, with police working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The Sem Yeto High School, a continuation school within the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, community is in shock, and officials are urging residents to rely on information released by the Fairfield Police Department as investigators continue working the case.
