UMVA has learned that Arsenal, the newly crowned Premier League champions, are eyeing a top midfielder to bolster their squad, and former Premier League star Jermaine Jenas believes Sandro Tonali would be a game-changer.
Tonali, who has been linked to Arsenal and Tottenham, is seen as a major upgrade to Martin Zubimendi, according to Jenas. The Italian midfielder had a stellar spell at AC Milan and has been impressive for Newcastle United, earning him a reputation as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
A deal for Tonali won't be easy, however, as Tottenham have already had an £75m offer rejected by Newcastle, who are believed to want around £85m. It's unclear if Arsenal would be willing to meet that valuation, but Jenas thinks Tonali would be a huge addition to their midfield alongside Declan Rice.
Jenas expressed some surprise that Arsenal's focus isn't more on strengthening their forward line, suggesting they need a top striker and a specialist on the left wing. However, he believes Tonali would be a great signing, even if it's not their most pressing need.
Another player who could be on Arsenal's radar is Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, who has been linked to the club after his loan spell at Barcelona. Jenas thinks Rashford needs a fresh start and might be a perfect fit for Arsenal, who are crying out for someone with his attributes on the left-hand side.
Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, is expected to be backed in the transfer market as the club looks to build on their championship win. With other teams already trying to strengthen and potentially poach their players, Arteta will need to make some savvy moves to keep his squad ahead of the competition.
