UMVA has learned that a fundraiser for Anthony and his family, which initially aimed to raise nearly $1.4 million, ultimately collected almost $634,000 before coming to a close.
The fundraiser, titled "Help Karmelo Official Fund," was established to support the family's urgent needs, including safe relocation due to escalating threats to their safety and well-being, as well as basic living costs, transportation, counseling, and security measures.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the funds raised were dispersed over the past year for lawful purposes, including legal defense and family relocation, with the stated purpose now complete, the fundraiser has been closed.
The Anthony family, who previously resided in Frisco, Texas, has reportedly relocated, with the family patriarch, Drew Anthony, publicly posting on social media that he currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that a new fundraising campaign has emerged in support of the Anthony family, started by Dominique Alexander, a Dallas-based civil rights activist who has served as the family's spokesperson throughout the case.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the closure of the initial fundraiser has raised questions about the family's future needs and how they will be supported, with many wondering what prompted the sudden change.
