UMVA has learned that GLOBE Telecom, Inc. is taking a major step to bridge the digital divide in the Visayas region by expanding its community-based broadband centers.
The company's ambitious plan aims to widen fiber internet access and improve customer support services in underserved areas, recognizing that reliable connectivity has become a vital necessity for education, work, business, and everyday life.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Jimbo B. Cordero, general manager for the Visayas, emphasized that bringing broadband services closer to communities will make it easier for more families to access the opportunities that come with a strong internet connection.
GLOBE's broadband unit, Globe At Home, is spearheading the expansion of these centers, which will provide application assistance and connectivity services, particularly in areas located far from traditional service hubs.
The centers are designed to be a one-stop-shop for residents to access information on fiber plans and internet services without needing to travel long distances, making information about home internet services more visible and accessible.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the telecommunication company plans to open more broadband centers this month in several provinces, including Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Samar, Leyte, Bohol, and Cebu, further solidifying its presence in the region.
GLOBE has already established a strong foothold in the Visayas, with community-based broadband access points in Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Oriental, Samar, Leyte, Bohol, and Cebu, as part of its broader push to strengthen fiber connectivity outside Metro Manila.
The expansion comes on the back of growing internet demand in provincial areas, and GLOBE's first-quarter financial performance, which saw attributable net income of P5.55 billion, down 20% from a year earlier, due to higher financing costs and the absence of one-off gains.
