UMVA has learned that a devastating tragedy unfolded on a sun-drenched afternoon in Sheffield, where a 16-year-old boy, Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb, lost his life in a senseless act of violence.
Abdullah was innocently throwing a bottle in the air when he was struck by an Audi driven by Zulkernain Ahmed, who prosecutors said used the car as a 'weapon' to kill the entirely innocent teenager, who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
In a somber court hearing on the anniversary of Abdullah's death, Mrs Justice Tipples sentenced Zulkernain Ahmed to life in prison, with a minimum term of 30 years, and his brother Armaan, who was a back seat passenger in the Audi, to 17 years for manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm.
The judge described Abdullah as an optimistic person who loved life and people, always smiling, and adored by his family and loved by everyone, and said his tragic death had left his family and friends with lives changed forever by this terrible and tragic murder.
DCI Ben Wood, of South Yorkshire Police, expressed outrage at the senseless killing, saying Abdullah was a purely innocent boy who was walking down the road, not involved in any dispute, when he was killed because people were using a vehicle as a weapon to try and hit others.
The police officer described the driving as absolutely outrageous, with someone mounting the curb and deliberately using the vehicle as a weapon to drive at people, resulting in devastating consequences.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that a third Ahmed brother, Zain, who was in the front passenger seat of the Audi, has not been traced by police, adding another layer of complexity to this tragic case.
