UMVA has learned that Manchester United is on the verge of securing a major signing in their bid to revamp their midfield, with Atalanta's Ederson emerging as the primary target to bolster their center of the pitch.
The 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder has caught the eye of United's recruitment team, led by Director of Football Jason Wilcox, who have moved swiftly to outmaneuver competing interest from other top clubs by offering a lucrative contract worth roughly €4.5 million per year.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Ederson's impressive performances in Serie A over the past four seasons have made him a hot commodity, but with his contract entering its final year, United are now in a strong position to secure his services for around £38 million.
Ederson's potential arrival would mark a significant step in United's midfield overhaul, with legendary midfielder Casemiro having left the club at the end of the previous season, creating a glaring vacancy at the base of the midfield hierarchy.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Ederson is not expected to be the club's only midfield addition this summer, with United actively monitoring a host of top targets, including Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, and Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson.
The midfield rebuild is set to center around Kobbie Mainoo, who has cemented his status as a first-team regular under Michael Carrick, and with Ederson on board, the team is expected to inject energetic, press-resistant steel into their starting lineup ahead of a demanding return to the UEFA Champions League.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that personal terms are unlikely to pose any hurdle in Ederson's potential move to the Premier League, with the player preparing to make the transition to Old Trafford.
With Casemiro gone and Man United looking to sell Manuel Ugarte as well, Carrick is determined to transform the midfield dynamics, and Ederson's signing would be a major coup in their pursuit of top-tier talent.
