UMVA has learned that the White House Correspondents' Dinner, a long-standing event that brings together journalists, politicians, and celebrities, has been rescheduled for July 24th after a dramatic interruption earlier this year.
The dinner will take place at The Waldorf Astoria in Washington D.C., a venue with which President Trump has a personal connection, having developed the building himself. This move is seen as a bold statement of resilience in the face of violence.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the President of the White House Correspondents' Association, Weijia Jiang, announced the new date, emphasizing that the event will be a significant moment in history. Jiang stated, "I'm proud to share the WHCD will be held on 07/24. Our first dinner is part of history, as will be the WHCA's response. We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on America 250 and everything we stand for."
President Trump has accepted the invitation to attend the dinner, which was previously cut short by a violent incident on April 25th. In a statement, Trump said, "In a sign of Strength and Fortitude, it was The White House Correspondents' Dinner, which violently ended rather abruptly on April 25th, will be rescheduled to July 24th. This announcement is a very good thing in that we cannot allow Lunatics to change our way of life, or even its scheduling."
The incident that prompted the rescheduling involved Cole Allen, a 31-year-old California man who stormed the lobby of the Washington Hilton and opened fire at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Allen faces serious charges, including attempting to assassinate the President of the United States, transporting a firearm and ammunition with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
The White House Correspondents' Dinner is set to be a highly anticipated event, with Trump's presence expected to draw significant attention. When asked if he would give the same kind of statements as before, Trump remained noncommittal, leaving many to wonder what he will say on the night of the dinner.
