The beam, part of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's "Steel Across America" tour, was brought to the school as it commemorates the upcoming 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. This poignant moment reunites the school with memories of that fateful day.
Former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card, who broke the news to Bush that a second plane had struck the World Trade Center, attended the ceremony. His recollection of whispering to the president, "A second plane hit the second tower, America is under attack," still resonates deeply.
Card returned to the campus alongside former second-grade teacher Sandra Kay Daniels, whose classroom Bush was visiting when the attacks unfolded. The memories of that morning have remained vivid for both of them, a testament to the profound impact of that day.
