A shadow of deceit has fallen over several west-end healthcare facilities as police search for a suspect accused of preying on the trust of those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
Between November and March, a man allegedly gained unauthorized access to nursing stations and staff rooms, exploiting a vulnerable environment. He didn’t seek medical attention; he sought opportunity, quietly stealing cash and credit cards from unsuspecting employees.
The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Nigel Antoine, is now wanted on multiple charges including theft, fraud, and possession of stolen property. He is described as six feet tall with a medium build and a distinctive grey beard.
Witnesses recall seeing Antoine wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, a white baseball hat, and white running shoes, often adorned with a gold chain. He was also observed driving a red sedan, a vehicle that may hold clues to his current location.
In a separate, disturbing incident, a rideshare journey turned into a terrifying ordeal for a 21-year-old woman in downtown Toronto. What began as a simple request for transportation quickly descended into a nightmare.
On February 24th, the victim allegedly endured a sexually charged comment from her driver, followed by a horrifying assault. The driver reportedly stopped the car, entered the back seat, and then fled, leaving the victim stranded and traumatized on the sidewalk.
Harsimranjot Dhillon, 33, of Caledon, has been arrested and charged with sexual assault. Police are deeply concerned that other victims may exist, fearing this was not an isolated incident.
Investigators believe Dhillon operated a grey Toyota Corolla, and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The possibility of additional unreported assaults weighs heavily on the investigation.
Meanwhile, a seemingly unrelated investigation into stolen liquor and high-end clothing unexpectedly uncovered a cache of stolen bicycles and e-scooters. A recent raid on a residence near Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West yielded ten bikes and three scooters.
Kei Lao, 39, of Toronto, now faces charges related to possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000 and trafficking in stolen goods. The seized items included brands like Allez, Bianchi, and Ninebot, representing a significant loss for their rightful owners.
Police are now meticulously working to reunite the recovered merchandise with its owners, requesting serial numbers and proof of purchase to verify claims. The investigation highlights the interconnectedness of seemingly disparate criminal activities.
