This won’t be just another tournament for the 62-year-old former teacher. It will be his tenth World Cup, a testament to a lifelong devotion. England’s group stage matches – in Dallas, Boston, and New York – are the initial focus, but Milne has a far grander plan.
Despite widespread criticism of the tournament’s ticket prices, Milne has boldly secured tickets for every game, all the way to the final. This ambitious undertaking requires significant financial backing, leading to a momentous decision.
Milne has placed his second home in Northwich, Cheshire, on the market for £350,000. The sale of this property will fuel his seven-week adventure across the US, beginning on June 3rd. He describes the Qatar tournament as a long-awaited gift to himself, saved for over years.
He isn’t approaching the trip without a plan for managing costs. Milne intends to utilize his network of friends, embracing the opportunity to “couch surf” in Mexico, Dallas, and Vancouver. England’s campaign kicks off against Croatia in Dallas on June 17th, followed by a match against Ghana in Boston six days later. The team, under Thomas Tuchel, will aim to secure their place in the knockout stages before their final group game against Panama in New Jersey.
