Official data released on Tuesday indicated that prices of several staple food items declined month on month during the June 15‑17 period, referred to as the second phase of June.
Well‑milled rice fell 3 percent to P56.15 per kilogram, though its price remains 14.3 percent higher than a year earlier. Fresh bone‑in pork slipped 0.9 percent to P309.75 per kilogram and registered an 8.3 percent drop compared with the previous year.
The price of round scad decreased 2.1 percent to P229.30 per kilogram, while still reflecting a 4.4 percent increase over the same month last year. Carabao mangoes posted the steepest monthly decline, down 5.3 percent to P146.25 per piece, and were 3.4 percent cheaper than a year ago.
Green beans experienced the strongest gains, rising 14.9 percent to P150.95 per kilogram and marking a 19 percent year‑on‑year increase. Refined sugar edged up 0.3 percent to P82.82 per kilogram, yet its price remains 3.2 percent lower than a year prior.
Native garlic saw a modest rise of 1.1 percent to P167.86 per kilogram, while its cost is 6.3 percent below the level recorded a year earlier.
